You SEW Girl - Nicole Mallalieu Design

Love making bags?
Want to give bag making a try?
Do yourself a favour and check out Nicole's blog.  Nicole makes gorgeous bags and shares fantastic bagmaking tips to help us create our own.

Looking for a great pattern or the bits and pieces you need to give your bag those finishing touches?  Nicole also has an online shop stocking her own bag patterns, handles, magnetic clips, D rings, purse feet and all other essential bag making stuff!

I've purchased from Nicole before and she is very helpful and prompt.  I love her bags and am midway through making the scrumptious "Tickled Pink" bag featured in Australian Homespun early last year (No.57 -Vol 9.2 - Pages 60-65).

Embarrassingly this as been a WIP since early last year.  I started unpicking an incorrectly sewn seam and accidentally unpicked another seam as well, so I put it aside in disgust.  I think a year of sulking is quite enough, it is time to finish it!

So, until next we meet, "You SEW Girl!"

Introducing Socrates

I thought I'd try another softie, what do you think?

Socrates

Socrates is made from 100% cotton fabric (recycled brown cotton jeans and kaffe fassett fabric) and filled with polyfill and a lavender bag - he smells divine.

Bibs, bibs and more bibs

I caught up with a couple of my gorgeous girlfriends recently, and they each have an almost one year old bub. I thought I'd try my hand at making some bibs for them (the bubs that is!).

What do you think of these?

Purple Paisley - how surprising? ;-)

Some bright animals!
Some gorgeous doggies.
A bit of camo to hide the spills.
Then I thought I'd try a smock like bib, I'm quite happy with the result.

Yummy cherries, front and back!
Now clever people, could someone please give me some tips about how  to make my binding better, especially how to finish it.  I've been overlapping my ends which is chunky and ugly, I'd love some tips on how to make it look nice.  Perhaps there is a tutorial in blogland that you can point me towards, or you might have a secret or two of your own?  I'd love any assistance you can offer.

Thanks!

Introducing Obtuse!

Like many of you, I absolutely, positively, unashamedly LOVE the gorgeous softies designed by Melly & Me. My favourite is Acute, and I bought the pattern for him yonks ago but only recently had a go at making my own little Acute - it is quite daunting to try and replicate something that looks so darling!
So, I'd started making mine and then I saw that Melly & Me were auctioning some of their softies & patterns to raise $$$ for the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.  I HAD to bid on Acute, and eventually, I won him!  Yay!!!!
Knowing that Acute was on his way to me, I thought I'd better join my little softie up and have a friend ready and waiting for him.  Unfortunately for Acute, thinking about this was as far as I got, so he arrived with a friend still in pieces waiting to be made whole.  Finally, I put his little friend together, and Obtuse was born!  He is nowhere near as perfect as Acute, but they enjoy each others company, and that's the main thing.
Here they are for your viewing pleasure!

The gorgeous Acute!

Introducing Obtuse!

Just two buddies hanging out in all their quirky glory!
Thanks Melly & Rosie for all your gorgeous creations, and especially for my very own Acute!  It is awesome to own the Acute made by Melly & Rosie, and even more special because they donated the proceeds of my purchase to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
Handmade Helps Out is rallying together the creative community and doing some wonderful things to help the bushfire affected community in Victoria.  If you haven't already, go check it out here.  There is so much to be done, and so many little ways that we can all contribute, either by buying ourselves a lovely handmade gift or by making something to donate, or by giving money to the Red Cross.
Thanks for stopping by, please say hello to let me know you've visited and I'll stop by your place later.
Hugs, Kelly :-)
